Got Lice? Not for long!

Lice treatment, in order to be effective, needs a 3-step approach. First, you need to treat the person with the lice infestation (or the person with the lice). Secondly, you need to treat the entire family. Third, you need to treat the household. STEP 1: Treat The Lice Sufferer. . . First and Foremost!
If you’re suffering from lice, you’ll probably start off by treating the lice they have with over the counter shampoos. These are most often not effective, which unfortunately, you will shortly find out first hand. Lice have developed a resistance to these medications. Also, these shampoos contain pesticides (YUCK!), so be very careful to apply the shampoo in the recommended manner. Take care to look at the age limitations for these medicines as well (they should not be used on children younger than two years old). NOTE: Do not use shampoo or conditioner on the hair after the lice treatment.
Then, be sure to check the hair. If you still see lice moving as vigorously as they had been before the medicine was applied, I’m sorry to say, it didn’t work! At this point, most people visit the doctor to get a prescription lice treatment medication to kill the lice.
Once you’ve gotten rid of the lice, you might need to retreat the child after seven days to be sure any nits that may have hatched are killed as well. Checking the hair every two days or so is a good idea to keep an eye on things. NOTE: You should continue checking for about three weeks.
STEP 2: Treat The Entire Family! Yup, It’s that important.
Check each family member carefully for lice. Remember, lice are HUMAN parasites, so they cannot live on pets. So yes, Fido is safe. It is not necessary to treat your pets. If any family members are found with lice, treat them in the same manner that you treated the infested child (see step 1 above).
It’s also important to remember that the over-the-counter lice treatment medicines are not to be used for people with health limitations such as allergies or pregnancy. Lice are EASILY spread through human contact and therefore it is very important that each family member is examined and treated with a lice treatment…we don’t want any re-infestations, do we? No we don’t!STEP 3: Now It’s Time To Treat The HOME!
Treating the home is equally as important as treating each family member when you’re combating lice. Take all clothing and bedding that have been affected and wash them in very hot water, at least 130 degrees! Ouch…but it’s necessary to kill the little suckers.
All pillows and blankets that can’t be washed should be either dry cleaned or put in plastic bags and sealed tightly. These bags should remain sealed for two weeks, giving any live lice enough time to die.   Vacuum your rugs and carpets thoroughly and often. It’s also a good idea to vacuum any couches and chairs you may have also.
Combating lice often feels like a never-ending battle. You will get discouraged and you will get frustrated because it only takes one louse to re-infect your home…just one lousy louse!

I discovered I had head lice today.. found only one bug and a few eggs upon inspection. Went to the drug store, purchased the RID treatment kit and followed the directions.

My hair is long: to the middle of my back. After combing for hours we found only approx. 15-20 eggs. Obviously I haven’t had the lice very long. After I completed the treatment, I flat ironed my hair with my CHI straightner to try and burn any eggs left behind.

Not sure if it’s just my mind playing tricks on me but I can feel things crawling on my head and I’m just wondering ………if there is still lice, then how long should I wait to repeat the shampoo? I don’t want to damage my hair.

By the way, yes… I have used the spray on my furniture and bedding and have washed everything in hot water.
