Rosemary oil! It worked for us. Lice seems to be rampant in our area. My kids and thier cousins spend a year giving it back and forth before we discovered the oil. If you put a few drops in your hands and then pat down the hair before they leave the smell will deter lice. When we tried it the kids already had lice and we added a teaspoon of oil to the shampoo and them ran the comb through the shampood hair. The bugs literally walked right onto the comb to get away from the smell. The Oil also makes getting any eggs out after they are out of the shower. You may have to wash the hair a few more times after you are done to get all the oil back out but its so much easier than using the RID.

Hello again,

You can buy tea tree oil from most health food stores and some supermarkets even stock it.

I strongly suggest you give it a go, try the methods I suggested in previous posts. It really does help to prevent head lice.

Good Luck

Dog Shampoo is another effective method of killing lice. Wet hair properly, apply the dog shampoo, and let it remain in your hair from 10-60 minutes, based on the testimonial. This might work, because most dog shampoos contain pesticides as one of their constituents to help control fleas, ticks, and other animal parasites. Besides these active ingredients are highly concentrated and so can harm humans, if used as a shampoo. But various testimonials on the Web state that dog shampoo is the best solution to treat head lice. If you want a home remedy that is safe, effective or economical, dog shampoo does not fulfill either of these criteria. Dog shampoo contains strong chemicals that are not meant for humans.

I am unaware that you can actually prevent lice. She will only get it if she comes in direct contact with anothe child that has lice - sharing hats, brushes, touching coats (on the coat rack), etc. The best you can do is teach her about not sharing some things, and the school should send out a letter if a child has lice to make you aware of what to look for. If she does get it - good luck to you - they are horrible.
