My son’s kids have had head lice for over a year. It makes me sick! Then tonight my stepdaughter came home from her mothers house and said that her half sister has head lice. She slept in the same bed with her half sister all night. She asked me to look through her head to make sure their were no bugs. Is their some strain of headlice out there that no one knows about? Or are they just ignoring the obvious? Do I turn my son into DHS?

I don’t know of any super resistant lice. I do know, however, that most people don’t treat everything they need to treat. Not only does the hair need to be treated (with shampoo and remove all the nits), but all bedding, stuffed toys, carpets, clothing, cars, etc.. need to be treated. The problem isn’t resistant lice, it’s re-infestation.
The ONLY safe way to get rid of head lice permanently is to use a totally natural alternative to the chemical shampoos then use prevention methods such as hairspray and tea tree mixed with water in a spray bottle every day to ensure they never return.
Before you listen to anyone advising you to use a pesticide treatment (over the counter shampoo) please consider the following:
No chemical head lice treatment is legally allowed to be labeled as ‘safe’ as every insecticide is a poison. They are also ineffective as head lice are, yes, becoming immune to them. Not all head lice have immunities to such treatments but the number with immunities is continuing to grow at a rapid rate.
Luckily there are quite a few totally natural remedies available that readily kill head lice.
Suffocation is an effective method where oil based products (i.e.: conditioner) are used to block the breathing holes and kill the live lice. The real trick though is to find natural products that will kill both the live lice and their eggs in one fast effective treatment.
Remedies containing Neem Oil are known to be highly effective as Neem interrupts the growth and reproduction of the head louse. Neem’s insecticidal properties are widely recognized now and the oil is commonly available at your local health food store.

Good luck.
