   You can’t just use the shampoo because the eggs called Nits are still there and can survive and rehatch. You need to use a special fine comb and have someone literally comb each strand of hair to get them out. You also need to treat your environment; your bed, your hair brushes, your pillow, your sofa, everywhere in your house. If you try the over the counter killers and they just aren’t getting rid of it even with the combing then you should call your doctor and get the prescription strength stuff. Simply dying your hair won’t kill them and vinegar alone won’t kill them either you need to use a delouser like Rid or Nixx and then comb those buggers out…..now might be the time to think about going with a short haircut too because if you have long hair it can be hell to get all those nits out in time before they start hatching again.

   A great way to get those little pests out of your hair is to use a lice comb. These are two-sided combs with the teeth spaced really close together to trap those little buggers, yet allowing each strand of your hair through.

   I hope you don’t have super long hair or too much hair because this is a pretty tedious method that may require someone else to help you.

   I hope you’re not afraid of bugs because these things are ugly.

   You start the comb from the tip of your scalp and go straight down to the tips. You need to do this at the bathroom sink or a table with some white paper, because when you comb these little suckers out of your hair, they will fall down or get stuck in your comb. If they are on the comb, run your finger on the teeth while holding the comb close to the sink or paper. The lice will fall out. You either need to run them down the sink or flatten them with your fingernail. They’re tough like fleas. Smashing them with your soft fingertips won’t do a thing.

   You need to be very thorough and comb every inch of your head. Be aware that you may lose some hair in the process because these combs’ teeth are tight so that they snag the lice.

   You will need to do this for a few days until you don’t feel any more bites on your scalp.

   Also, have someone check for lice eggs. It’s disgusting, but they will lay eggs in your hair. The eggs are very small and white and stuck to your hair. Whoever checks your hair will have to get a good grip and slide it off the hair strand. You will find them closer to the roots of your hair.

   Lastly, where to find these miracle combs?? Go to a Vietnamese or Chinese store that sells items you’d see at China town. Ask them for lice combs. And if they don’t understand English, ask some other shopper in the store who may help you translate. The comb should cost about $2-$3. And don’t feel embarrassed when you purchase this. I think it’s less embarrassing than getting lice shampoo.

   And if one store doesn’t carry the comb, try another. There’s always one around carrying these combs. I’m speaking from personal experience.

   This method is cheap and will rid the lice.
