Get Rid Of Lice Fast! Rotating Header Image

How do I get rid of lice that WONT go away no matter what I do? My 9 yo keeps getting it and it keeps coming!!

She had it last school year, we treated it several times. She has gotten it over the summer by playing with other kids. I can’t seem to keep it under control. I am thinking about talking to her peds doctor to ask if there is something I can do besides the ‘regular’ home treatments… please help, I cannot miss time at work all the time to deal with this issue with lice…I am desperate!!!!!

I got lice one time and was lucky enough for the shampoo to work, but for my cousins it didn’t. The only method that worked on him was to shave his head unfortunetly.

It really sucks, but when all else fails that works.

Use the lice control over the counter. After you get rid of them put conditioner in her hair and leave it in they can not stick to it and she won’t get it again also make sure you bed are cleaned good and all the things like clothes and all sheets and pillow cases.

    Hope this helps

I really think the only way now is to talk to the doctor. The over the counter stuff isnt all that great. Time for some high powered medicine.

Are you cleaning your entire house to. They can live on coat hoods and bedding, stuffed animal, carpet etc for periods of time. I would definitely keep her hair short until the problem subsides.

You have to wash everything…the rid ex comes with a spray that is good for couches and the floors. A little girl that I was baby sitting had it. I treated my kids just in case, treated the floors and couches then vacuumed, washed clothes. Bag up treated stuffed animals and quarantine them for like two weeks, treat bedding (mattress and box spring). Wash sheets, I mean everything. Treat hair again and also hold the hair dryer to the head until it burns then move it to another spot. My kids never contracted it (knock on wood) but I was not going to take a chance.

I would definitely call the doctor or even ask the pharmacy!! It seems I heard that those nasty little things are becoming immune to the treatments.lice have a cycle much like a flea. make sure you clean all the bedding, vacuum the floor(throw the bag away so they don’t hatch in there) stuffed animals all have to be bagged for weeks or washed and dried.

You need a specific and GOOD shampoo for lice. After shampooing, leave on the hair for 5 minutes then wash off and reapply. Leave on again for a few minutes. This has to be repeated the next day.
Your whole family must also go for this treatment.
Secondly, if your daughter has long hair, you must cut it shorter, not necessarily too short but above shoulder level.
Last but not least, all pillow cases in your household have to be changed and washed DAILY until the problem is solved.
You can also add lavender essential oil to the shampoo and pillow cases, it acts as a lice repellant.

The main problem with lice are the ‘eggs’. They look greyish white and new lice appears quickly. I believe the shampoo you used wasn’t right or your forgot to change all the pillow cases and treat the whole family. GOOD LUCK!

She keeps getting it because she is exposed to it from other kids. Here is a web site that has suggestions on prevention. http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Head_lice_treatment_and_control?OpenDocument

Try soaking hair to the scalp in olive oil and leave on for at least 30 minutes. Then, comb with lice removal comb and wash hair very well. After a couple of times doing this, your problem should be over. Also, make sure you are cleaning all bedding, couches, carpets, brushes, hats, scarfs, backpacks, anything that you can think of that goes on or near the head.

My dr had me use olive oil and put a plastic cap on it. as long as they can stand it. smothers bugs. I say cut some hair and you must use a metal lice comb to comb hair. Plastic wont get them all. Throw away as many pillows, stuffed animals as you can. Put the rest in plastic bags for at least 1 month. Wash all bedding in HOT water. Keep looking everyday for nits and get them out. After about two weeks all should be good. Also check everyone in family and friends.
