My mother in law came home with lice from her work, she treated herself and I think I may have it too because I’m all itchy and feel like my scalp is crawling. I’m 12 weeks pregnant, Is it safe for me to use the regular lice treatment?

They also have a comb that’s electrice that gently shocks your scalp (YOU CAN NOT FEEL IT) It kills the eggs and lice itself while removing it. Also, if they have bitten you and you are itching, running your neck and head through vinegar will disinfect those bites which will sting but you feel much better that way. All without harsh chemicals or bleaching or anything.
blue4you,
Briefly since much has already been written. A good, proven natural solution and one of the best nit combs can be found under the NitFree brand.
Safe for preggers and kids too of course.
Good luck.
I know exactly what you are going through and the people. When my gorgeous niece came home with a dose of head lice from school, we were all quietly horrified, to say the least. I think we did quite well to contain how we felt, but in our own way we never really expected or were prepared for how much it was going to affect all of our lives.
The ONLY safe way to get rid of head lice permanently is to use a totally natural alternative to the chemical preparations then use prevention methods such as hairspray and tea tree mixed with water in a spray bottle every day to ensure they never return.
You need to stay away from chemical head lice treatments. Before you listen to anyone advising you to use a pesticide treatment please consider the following:
No chemical head lice treatment is legally allowed to be labeled as ‘safe’ as every insecticide is a poison.
Lindane for example is a known carcinogen and is now banned in 52 different countries. Yet it is still used in more than 6 million prescriptions in the US. Google ‘Jesse’s Story Head Lice’ for more. All lice killing pesticides are a poison and have the potential to cause serious damage, even if used as directed.
If a lice treatment does not work once it is not going to work twice, in fact the lice that live will breed into a whole new batch that are resistant to that chemical.
Feel free to check out the articles at the following site for more advice.
Good luck.
Your best choice is to go to a health food store for natural head lice treatment.
Also, you will have to wash all your bedding, linens and bath items, clothing in hot water. What you cannot wash, you will need to bag up for 2 weeks straight. As well you will need to treat everyone in your home. Also treat your hairbrushes with the treatment.
Have your doctor check your head. The eggs can look clear or brown (almost like little tear drops). Each egg needs to be removed. So use a nit comb. Clip your hair up when you remove the eggs and go over two inch sections.
Use olive oil, I would not recommend the shampoo, if you search for lice treatments there is a website and they no longer recommend that shampoo, because the lice have become immune to it. coat the hair with olive oil, or other cooking oil. Let it set, then shampoo it out and have someone get the nits out with a nit comb. Make sure you vacuum real good and also wash all your linens in hot water to get rid of all the lice and their eggs,
I don’t know if it is ok to use that stuff when you’re pregnant. I would put a few drops of tea tree oil in your shampoo. The tea tree oil should kill the lice. Tea tree oil can be bought at Wal-mart or any drug/ health food store.
I would not use it because most of that stuff contains pesticides that can be absorbed by your skin. There are natural remedies@ walmart. To prevent an infestation, try using Suave coconut shampoo & conditioner. The lice hate coconut for some reason…
This is what the Australian Government now recommends:
Head lice are only found on the human head. They are not found on any other part of the human body, although there are other types of lice that do infest other parts of the human body. Nor are they found on any other animal. Head lice do not live on furniture, hats, bedding, carpet or anywhere else in the environment. Treating anything other than the human head does not eradicate head lice.
What’s the comb and conditioner method?
Head lice breathe through small openings along their abdomens called spiracles. By coating the hair and therefore the louse in something thick and slimy, these openings close over, shutting down the louse’s breathing for about 20 minutes.
Head lice can move very fast across the scalp. Using a head lice comb on a dry scalp will often miss many lice as they are very clever at avoiding being caught. While unfortunately the louse doesn’t die with this method, it does slow it down so that you can catch them.
Any thick and slimy substance applied to the hair will have the same effect. Some parents swear by mayonnaise or olive oil, though it does seem logical to use simple hair conditioner. It can be difficult to wash out oils easily and using mayonnaise does seem a waste! Nevertheless the principle is the same; the lice will be slowed down so that you can comb them out.
Applying conditioner, or any other slimy product, will not kill nor remove eggs, although some good quality lice combs will remove them.
Nitbusting at home
Nitbusting can be a time-consuming task. If Nitbusting at home with your child, do the following:
Try sitting the child between your legs on a low stool and putting on a video for an hour while you work.
Wrap a towel or kitchen paper around the child’s shoulders to catch conditioner spill.
Remove any scrunchies, ribbons clasps, etc. from the child’s head and comb out plaits and braids.
Apply liberal amounts of conditioner to the scalp and massage it through all the hair shafts. You will use a lot of conditioner. Every hair has to be coated to ensure it reaches the lice.
Lice live close to the scalp, so make sure that you cover the hair shaft close to the scalp. You don’t have to work the conditioner onto the whole length of the hair. Combing will spread it well enough. The idea of the application is to restrict the movement of the head lice long enough for you to catch them with a comb.
After you’ve applied the conditioner, use a large comb to part small sections of the hair starting from the nape and working upwards toward the crown. Eggs are often found behind the ears and toward the back of the head. By using this method, you are more likely to find the head lice on top of and toward the front of the head.
When the hair is detangled and manageable, use a fine lice comb to comb out each section several times.
After each comb out, wipe the conditioner on the paper towel. If the child has head lice, you will see them on the towel.
Keep combing each section of hair until no further lice, nymphs or eggs appear on the paper towel. Often you will see lots of old egg casings that may take awhile to remove.
