Well, when things are crawling around in their hair, I’d say yeah. That’d be a major clue.

  2. Ravii says:

Yes, you see the bugs moving around and I think you may see the eggs on the scalp.

  3. The Misfit says:

Try spraying rat posion in his hair

  4. huggablecurlz says:

its hard to spot, but it is visible to the naked eye when you brush the child’s hair.

  5. just4jen73@sbcglobal.net says:

You have to know what you are looking for, because they are TINY

  10. ... says:

yes u can see them there little white things ususally and u can also see them move around.

  11. LuluBelle says:

Yes, you usually can see them jumping around. It’s hard to see lice in people with light hair, like blonde.

  12. bananasplitz965 says:

Yes you should see the lice. And ask the child if their head is itching. That’s Important too.

You can tell by looking IF you know what you are looking for. You want to look for the “nits.” They are easiest to find. For a magnified picture go here: http://www.brooksidepress.org/Products/OperationalMedicine/DATA/operationalmed/Manuals/GMOManual/clinical/Dermatology/dermfig8500.jpg

Remember, that is MAGNIFIED. They are smaller. Here is an unmagnified patch: http://health.yahoo.com/media/mayoclinic/images/image_popup/r7_headlice.jpg

Now, excuse me while I go scratch my head. Just talking about them makes me itchy.

  14. Pinay says:

I believe you could see them but you need a bright light. School nurses identify them without anything except thier eyes.

  15. just me says:

You should be able to see them…look close, and look near the scalp…they will be clearish, white little things, that move…the eggs are “attached” to the hair, and are hard to remove w/o the proper shampoos….

    Signs and Symptoms:

Itching or ticklish feeling of something crawling on the head.

Live lice or nits stuck to the hair very close to the scalp.

Red bite marks or sores (from scratching) on the scalp. These are often found behind the ears or back of the neck.

Swollen glands of the neck or head.

    Irritable (bad mood) or fussy.

    Matted, bad-smelling hair and scalp.

  17. smartypants909 says:

You may not see any bugs, but if you look at the scalp you should see the eggs, called nits, glued to the hair root, especially in the back near the neckline. Most people do not see the actual lice, just the eggs.

depends on how long your child would have lice for…the more it develops the more visible it is.
If your child is around other children with head lice is good to use a special shampoo that protects against lice, you can get that in the pharmacy and you only have to apply it once!

  19. Disney Girl says:

It all depends. If the child has recently got it you may not see it, but after a while they become more noticeable if you look closely. But to be safe buy a kit for lice, they’re cheap and you can buy it at any drugstore.

  20. liam m says:

well the best thing for head lice is to take a plain white piece of paper and place your childs head over it… then with a very fine ended comb, comb through the hair and you might see little black dots on the paper…. this is head lice…

but overall if your child has come into contact with other children with lice then you have to treat them no matter what as there may be lice eggs still learking around or laying doormant

  21. crmw_luvs_with_hate says:

In most cases, yes. Use a popsicle stick like skool nurses do to move around strands of hair to get a better look, dong that esspecialy will let you know cuz u’ll see lil white things, or tiny moving around things.

  22. stepperstar says:

If they had them you would see them but sometimes you cant always see them so it might be best to put lice stuff and then brush it with a new comb just in case

  23. GuitarGal says:

    yes…you can

the actual lice are white, so their easy 2 spot in dark hair, but if ur child has light hair so should be looking 4 the eggs cuz they’re black.

  24. kaykay says:

if you look on the scalp you should see them. it is more likly a kid with dandraf would have lice because they munch on the dead skin if you cant see any but you are suspicious you should consult a docter.

  25. att_i_tude2006 says:

take your child outside in the sun and go through their hair slowly and see if you see some nits that kinda glitter in the sun…..and it would be stuck to the hair strand…..not like a piece of lint it would be almost like a small piece of dandriff on the hair strand

  26. Crazy♥Beautiful says:

Lice hatch little white eggs. so if you go around a kid’s head and you see certain spots that have a lot of little white things that look like dandruff then you know the child has lice. you can tell the difference from dandruff because lice eggs are stuck on the hair not the scalp. also if you look around the scalp and notices red spots, it indicates that the kid has been scratching which is another sign of lice. you can also see the lice walking around the scalp. they’re black and small but still visible.

  27. hdbambi says:

You can indeed tell if a child has head lice. The lice eggs look like very small grains of salt. However when you try to rub them out they will not move. After the eggs hatch, you will see, at first, small brown bugs crawling around. They remind me of roaches, but are much smaller. When they get to be an adult they are bigger and very obvious.
To treat lice, you can go to Wal-Mart or a similar store and get lice shampoo with a nit comb. (Nits are what the eggs are called.) However, if you have an infant or young toddler, you must use specially formulated shampoo. The only one that I know of that will work for infants and toddlers is Nix.

It depends on how many she has. Look especially behind her ears and at the bottom of her hairline by her neck. The best thing, though, is to go ahead and comb through it with a nitcomb. We’ve had a huge outbreak here. I’ve also found that, personally, daily nitcombing and frequent mattress vaccuuming and sheet changing are better than any of that neurotoxic stuff they sell to kill lice. I got sick of using poison on my daughter, and they kept coming back anyway. The schools here don’t report them any more or even check for them, so it’s hard to keep them gone. But when I decided to just do as above, after a while I wasn’t finding them anymore (a week or so). I combed for a few more days to be sure, did one last vaccum and sheet change (also vaccuum stuffed animals or run them through the dryer). I still vaccuum the mattress weekly. This time, they have not come back. This is the longest she has been “cured.” I’m not putting that nasty stuff on her head ever again! If you really want to use something, though, do a search on cetaphil and lice. There is a way to use that and it’s supposed to work well.

They are supposed to “like” clean hair. If she doesn’t have them now, or if she does and you get rid of them, it’s not a bad idea to keep hairspray, leave-in condition, whatever in her hair at all times. It’s supposed to make them stay away. I use leave-in condition and it has seemed to help.

  29. lil miss sunshine says:

you can see white kinda clear eggs laid by the lice. you will also be able to see the lice itself. use a fine tooth comb for your child hair if it’s in there it will get stuck to the comb.

  30. Aicha says:

the lice lay egg that can be seen like small corn of rice in the hair string, they are hard and clinging to the hair, light in color.Especially around the ears area. Can be difficult to see if your child have blond hair. The lice itself can seems like dandruff, but when you push it,it will move.Color from light to dark-grey.Use a cowm to check-out.But I will recommend you to treat your childes like they have lice, and get the right product and cleaning clothes ectr, since it have been discovered.Cause otherwise this can be and endless circle of lice attacks.”WAR OT THE LICE”just kidding. And don’t feel ashamed.Lice don’t automatically means poor hygiene.

  31. sleepy says:

Yes. The back of the neck…where the hair ends…flip the hair over and use a comb. Seperate the hair and you’ll be able to see if there are little white things crawling or just sitting there. If you don’t see any then the kid doesn’t have lice. YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO SEE THEM

  32. christinaa5877 says:

I think you need to look really close to the scalp. They are white little bugs.
